Deception, collusions, swindling… sounds like the plot of a best-selling novel. However, these terms are quite common in the commercial circles where immoral practices can be seen by the dozen.
Whether it is a big conglomerate or a small business, the stakes of outperforming the competition are always high. This cut-throat struggle for survival and emerging as a winner attracts a lot of unscrupulous tendencies that have unfortunately become a part of the system.
Hello everyone I am Nishit Pachauri current persuing BBA from Lovely professional University and today I am going to discuss about a case that humiliates humanity.
I am gonna talk about Foxconn Technology Group and better known as Foxconn, is a Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturing company .
Foxconn was assigned to make Alexa device for Amazon in China but the way it did it was disgraceful.
Hundreds of schoolchildren were drafted in to make Amazon’s Alexa devices in China as part of a controversial and often illegal attempt to meet production targets, documents seen by the Guardian reveal.
Interviews with workers and leaked documents from Amazon’s supplier Foxconn show that many of the children have been required to work nights and overtime to produce the smart-speaker devices, in breach of Chinese labour laws.
Some of the pupils making Amazon’s Alexa-enabled Echo and Echo Dot devices along with Kindles have been required to work for more than two months to supplement staffing levels at the factory during peak production periods, researchers found.
Foxconn said it would increase the number of regular workers and review salaries immediately.
A spokesperson for Amazon, which is headed by Jeff Bezos, the richest person in the world with a fortune estimated at more than $100bn, said the company would not tolerate violations of its supplier code of conduct and regularly assessed suppliers, often using independent auditors, to monitor compliance and improvement.
“If we find violations, we take appropriate steps, including requesting immediate corrective action,” said the spokesperson.
It was a really good step and initiative taken by Amazon and should be appreciated but the question here arises is that how ethical was it of Foxconn to take such step. Will people do anything possible for money.
This shows their values and Ethics.
